Friday morning, it happened again.
Under the covers, snuggling with my guy and my cat, Richard Parker, I could feel it creeping in. The telltale signs were all there: tightness in my chest, a sinking feeling in my stomach, a general feeling of discouragement and angst.
My eyes had barely opened, my feet had yet to touch the ground, but I already knew today would be a struggle.
My guy still sound asleep beside me, I began to replay the old stories that had been running through my mind for months.
We need to move. You’re too young to do what you’re doing. You don’t have what it takes to build a business. You should probably just get a real job. Your family thinks you’re crazy.
The same stories. The same cycle. All before 8:30 a.m.
Bad days happen to good people all the time. Sometimes we know why we wake up on the wrong side of the bed, sometimes we don’t.
Thursday morning, I was stoked to rise and shine. Even though everything in my life, including the weather, was the exact same as it was on Friday when I woke up feeling like garbage.
Before I began my “inner work”, I used to write off bad days like this. I used to surrender to the low-vibe feelings, indulge in my strife and use it as an excuse to hold myself to the lowest standards ever. I’d give myself permission to eat garbage, to hang out in bed, to ignore my friends and my life.
But now, things are a little different. I’m far from perfect, but I no longer let my low-vibe feelings drag me down and swallow my joy.
Not the factory kind . . . I’m talking about intentionally working to shift my vibration.
I do this by using “shifters”. These are small, subtle changes we can make to change our mood and as a result elevate our energetic vibration.
When I work with a new client, one of the first things I have them do is create a list of shifters. Simple, tiny things they can do when they feel they’re slipping into a negative place. You’d be surprised how much better a few sips of fresh air or a luxurious meal can make you feel.
So instead of lazing around the house on Friday when the winter blues hit, I put on my favourite top and handmade bracelet, drove to my favourite coffee shop and treated myself to glorious cup of coffee and warm scone. Then I made a fresh list of shifters to share with you, NAME, because writing about personal growth sparks mad joy for me.
So here ya go!
